Alpha-Lipoic Acid
|
| |
| There is support that Lipoic acid is effective in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy and
it may be useful in treating other aspects of diabetes. Lipoic acid may also be helpful in
some inborn metabolic disorders. There is emerging information that it might have immune
modulating effects. Lipoic acid may slow aging of the brain and be an anti-aging substance.
Lipoic acid might help prevent the oxidation of LDL cholesterol. It also might be protective
against oxidative stress, atherosclerosis, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and various
radiologic and chemical toxins. |
|
| Due to the lack of long-term safety information, Alpha-Lipoic Acid should be avoided by
nursing mothers and women who are pregnant. Individuals with diabetes and problems with
glucose intolerance are cautioned that supplemental Alpha-Lipoic Acid might lower blood
glucose levels. Blood glucose should be monitored to avoid possible hypoglycemia.
Alpha-Lipoic Acid in doses up to 600 milligrams daily has been well tolerated thus far. This
website is intended to educate and inform, and should not replace discussions with your
doctor. |
