Beta-Sitosterol

Beta-Sitosterol might be useful in some individuals with BPH.

Beta-Sitosterol supplements should be avoided by nursing mothers and women who are pregnant. Adverse reactions that were reported include gastrointestinal problems, such as constipation, diarrhea, gas, and indigestion. Some randomized trials have hinted that phytosterols might lower serum levels of alpha- and beta-carotene, lycopene, and vitamin E.
