Bovine Colostrum

Some Bovine Colostrum preparations might have some antimicrobial effects. There is, however, no credible evidence to that Bovine Colostrum builds muscle, burns fat, fights depression, improves mood, regulates blood sugars, and speeds healing of injuries, or that it has anti-cancer effects.

Nursing mothers and women who are pregnant should avoid Bovine Colostrum supplements. Bovine Colostrum contains insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 levels are elevated in colorectal, lung, and prostate cancer. Studies that have taken place recently found that IGF-1 levels correlate with risk of colorectal and prostate cancer in men, premenopausal breast cancer in women, and lung cancer in men and women. Individuals with these types of cancer and those at risk for these cancers should be careful in the use of Bovine Colostrum supplements. It is unlikely that the amount of IGF-1 in Bovine Colostrum would be problematic, but be careful. Adverse reactions to Bovine Colostrum supplements are mainly gastrointestinal and include diarrhea, bloating, nausea, and vomiting. In general, Bovine Colostrum is well tolerated.
