Brewer's Yeast

Brewer's Yeast is claimed to be useful for acne, colds, coughs, diarrhea, dyspepsia, furunculosis, inflammatory conditions, and various infections but these claims have little or no credible support. High-selenium Brewer's Yeast might have some anticarcinogenic effects and high-chromium yeast may be useful in some individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Nursing mothers and women who are pregnant should avoid Brewer's Yeast supplements pending long-term safety studies. Brewer's Yeast is generally well tolerated but occasional allergic reactions have been reported. Some individuals might develop flatulence when taking Brewer's Yeast. Concurrent use of Brewer's Yeast and MAO inhibitors (including pargyline HCl, phenelzine sulfate, and tranylcypromine sulfate) might cause hypertension.
