Gamma-Butyrolactone (GBL)

Gamma-Butyrolactone is an organic oily liquid used as an intermediate in the synthesis of such substances as polyvinypyrrolidone. Gamma-Butyrolactone is also used as a solvent for polyacrylonitrile and cellulose acetate, among others. GHB has been classified as a schedule I substance and is illegal to use except in certain FDA-allowed clinical trials.
