Glucomannan

Glucomannan has shown to be helpful in the management of constipation, diabetes, and obesity. Glucomannan also has some favorable effects on lipids.

Nursing mothers and women who are pregnant should avoid Glucomannan supplements. Glucomannan must be taken with adequate amounts of fluids. Inadequate fluid intake might cause Glucomannan to swell and block the esophagus, intestines, or throat. Glucomannan in tablet forms should be avoided. A few cases of esophageal obstruction have been reported with the use of Glucomannan tablets. Don't take Glucomannan before going to bed. Type 2 diabetics using Glucomannan, might require adjustment of their antidiabetic medicines. Common adverse reactions include abdominal distension and flatulence. Diarrhea is reported occasionally. Concurrent intake of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and Glucomannan might lower the absorption of the fat-soluble vitamins. Glucomannan might also lower the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins found in foods. This website is intended to educate and inform, and should not replace discussions with your doctor.
