Glutathione

Glutathione is a potent antioxidant but indications for its supplemental use are not yet well established. Glutathione may eventually prove to be helpful in the management of atherosclerosis, some cancers, diabetes, lung disorders, male infertility, noise-induced hearing loss, and to help prevent or ameliorate various toxicities. Glutathione might have some anti-viral activity.

Nursing mothers and women who are pregnant should avoid using supplemental Glutathione. Glutathione is an orphan drug for the treatment of AIDS associated cachexia and its use for this indication must be medically supervised. Oral doses up to 600 milligrams daily are tolerated well. There aren't any reports of adverse reactions. Administered parenterally, Glutathione might ameliorate some of the adverse reactions of cisplatin.
