Hesperidin

Hesperidin has shown some ability to affect lipids favorably and treat some vascular disorders in people. There are claims that Hesperidin is an anti-allergen and anti-inflammatory agent but these claims are based on animal experiment results.

Nursing mothers and women who are pregnant should avoid using supplemental Hesperidin at doses higher than in some multivitamin preparations (about 20 mg) unless recommended by a doctor. Adverse reactions include gastrointestinal ones, like nausea. The interaction between flavonoids, like Hesperidin, and vitamin C is unclear. It has been believed that flavonoids enhance the absorption of vitamin C and prevent its oxidation. Recent research indicates that flavonoids, like hesperetin, might actually inhibit the uptake of vitamin C into cells. More research is still needed.
